Why he doesn't want a winter truck.
I JUST CAN'T INTO TRUCKS!
1. Too big(I hate big cars); I'm not even comfortable or confident driving a van!
2. Too high(I hate sitting tall in vehicles, for the same reasons above)
3. I don't feel confident driving a truck.
4. I have no space at my house for a truck in the driveway
5. I have no use for a truck and it's bed.
6. It's overall useless to me in the non winter season.
7. If the 944 is down for any reason in the spring, summer or fall, I do not want to drive a truck for whatever period of time it is down.
8. I hate trucks.
9. Parking spaces are too damn small where I'd have to park.
10. They're not appealing to me in any way.
11. I think I'd be more likely to kill myself in a truck than in anything else!
It would just be all around BAD for me to be in a truck. No this probably sounds stupid, and it might be, but that is how I feel about trucks. I've driven one truck, an S10 and hated it; even though it was a stick...

I like Trucks :P

Why don't you just use your Focus in the winter? It's not like its a collectors item or anything like that?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:08 |

I was going to recommend a small truck like a Ranger or Mazda B2000, but if you didn't like an S-10, that rules those out :/
Looks like you're only truck option:

I'm not even comfortable or confident driving a van!
There's your problem right there. You're not comfortable with big vehicles because you aren't comfortable or confident to drive them. It's time to learn.
Honestly, it will be one of the best things you'll ever do. I learned to drive in a full size truck and hauled trailers and knew how to park them in reverse while I had my learners. It makes driving anything else significantly easier and in general a better driver.
You become more aware of your surroundings when driving something that big and it transfers down as they become habits.

Why not Volvo?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:12 |

Because it won't be my car when winter hits; it'll be my dad's.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:12 |

Or no trucks; can that be an option?

I don't like big vehicles either, which is why I drive a first gen Tacoma. It gives me the versatility I need, while having a reasonable footprint. Vehicles are always a compromise, and I don't mind this one.

How much experience do you actually have driving a truck? Because I was uncomfortable driving my dad's Silverado the first week or so because of it's size. Eventually though, you get used to the dimensions and it doesn't even phase you.
Hell, when I first drove it, I couldn't even pull into a parking space right. Now I can parallel park it without and issues.

See, this is because you know I'm right.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:20 |

Why not Ford Ranger?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:22 |

I can't even park a fucking van....
Does that help?

As they say, "Practice makes perfect"
If you never drive a tall/big vehicle, you'll never get good at driving them.

![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:27 |

Or I could just not drive a tall/big vehicle ever again and avoid them forever?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:27 |
|
Yeah, that is an option, but it's not a truck option.
;)
Are you a wagon fan?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:27 |

Good luck with that. You'll have to drive one at one point or another.

Eh? I don't know? My Wagon experience has been kinda dulled by this thing.

Dammit. I can't keep running from my mortal enemies on the road:
Trucks, Idiots, and Town&Country's
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:32 |

It also helps you understand how bigger vehicles handle and brake, and maybe learn not to pull out in front of that dump truck loaded down with a ton of dirt without maybe stepping on it to get up to the speed limit so your little BMW doesn't end up in the ditch. True story.
*not implying you
**not sure that they didn't understand that big trucks take longer to stop, or just asshole because BMW
Seriously though, if people drove a bigger vehicle every once in a while and learned how they drive differently, it may help them be more courteous to drivers in other vehicles, especially commercial, when they realize not everything stops and goes like whatever they're driving.

This: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/okay-oppo-here…
But giving my dad the FoST instead of selling it

Trucks aren't your mortal enemies unless they're driven by assholes.
Idiots and T&Cs on the other hand...

![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:37 |

Yeah you're rght. They're only my enemies in parking lots. Damn big ass trucks taking 1.5 spaces..
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:39 |

Don't be ashamed, buy a truck and learn. Get an extended cab with a 6.5 foot box. It's a good middle size for a truck and usually cheapest used option.

Lets meet halfway. I even got a V8 RWD for you. Just deal with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

That files under "driven by assholes"

HOLD ON MISTER. WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT WAGONS?!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:43 |

Only in Aussie -_-
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:44 |

Which at my school is the normal thing. They even park sideways in some spots; taking up three!! My hate for trucks runs very deep.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:45 |

Remember??
I have no good experience with wagons period... -_-
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:46 |

ok it's starting to make sense. but you said in your post that the FoST was not big enough for your dad's work things so now what? Will he have a car that does not meet his needs?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:46 |
|
What if this turns out bad? What if something goes wrong? :(
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:47 |

You don't hate the trucks, you hate the drivers.
The truck doesn't dictate where it goes (most of the time) the driver does.
The truck doesn't park like an asshat, the driver does.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:47 |

Get a Ranchero...best of both.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:47 |
|
Get a G8 GXP and theres a company that will convert it for you.
That or get an El Camino. Best tow vehicle ever! Give it some wicked 70's metal flake paint and everything. Best of both worlds.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:48 |
|
For your winter beater. Preferably old and RWD, because they were built out of girders and look like it.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:50 |
|
Because he'd ruin the interior trying to get it to fit. It'll fit, but in the end, the FoST would look like his Magnum does...
Take a look at the interior, this is his actuall car by the way -_-

:)
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:51 |

El Camino?

Theres a 5.7L fix for that.

![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:54 |

In the case of my two 240s and my two 740s, they were both great cars. I traded in my last 240 with just under 380k on it, and I have a couple of friends who are both well over 400k on theirs.
Also, they're almost indestructible.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:55 |

But we're selling/trading in the car for a Volvo. That Magnum is gonna be gone by winter.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:56 |

Get over your hatred and drive one again! It isn't as hard as it seems.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:56 |

Almost?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:57 |

"I have no use for a truck and it's bed."
"It's overall useless to me in the non winter season."
You have no use for it until you have a use for it. And one day, you will. And as far as it being useless in the non winter season, so will any other car you buy, since it'll just be sitting there the same way a truck would while you drive the Porsche.
Trucks aren't that bad, I promise. The only reason you hate then is because you've talked yourself into hating them. Most of the things you mentioned above that are 'problems' can be learned or gotten over with a better attitude. Just my 2 cents.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:58 |
|
this is why I'm confused. You said he is taking the FoST, but you also say his stuff doesn't fit? such confused
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:01 |
|
He'd ruin the interior cramming it in; rather than have him ruin it, I wanted to sell it. But I was thinking it might be better if he keeps it? I'm unsure myself.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:02 |

No car is indestructible, but I'd be willing to bet that after a nuclear war, the only surviving things will be Volvo 240s and cockroaches.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:03 |

Why does everything I say make me sound stupid and wrong? :(
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:03 |
|
Why must I always be proven wrong...
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:21 |

Because you are. Pick one car. If you could have one car what would it be.

911
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:25 |

Trucks tend to be solid and cheap to fix when they do break. And as for learning, it's a process that's more than worth it. It makes you a far better driver overall.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:25 |
|
If you would sell all the vehicles that are yours how much do you think you could get?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:37 |
|
Not enough.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 16:34 |

Haha not trying to prove you wrong or anything, I'm just giving advice so you can keep a more open mind when you're shopping for a good candidate for a winter vehicle.
